In the News

It’s always a thrill when I’m asked to speak about Paris, and I love doing it. I’m also often asked how Paris Off Script came to be. That’s an interesting story and one I enjoy sharing, too. Honestly, I have so much fun doing what I do, it should be outlawed! Listen, watch, or read for yourself, and tell me what you think.

In February 2023, while in Paris, I was the guest speaker for two webinars! The first was a conversation exploring the importance of mindset in both business and life. This is the second one, for the Seven Sisters Alumnae Association, which I’ve been a member of since its founding several years ago. It’s more than 50,000 strong! I’m also a small business member. So it was an honor to be invited as one of the first speakers to the Association’s Lunch and Learn series. It was lunchtime on the East Coast, breakfast on the West, and evening in Paris as I shared both historical and personal Paris stories and fielded an interesting Q&A at the end. Merci to this dynamic group and to Smith alumna, Jen McNally, for moderating!

Merci beaucoup to Stephanie Hessler of Stephanie Hessler Coaching for an invitation to speak at her Success Mindset Series. In a conversation about joie de vivre—loving life—we talk about personal growth, what inspires us, and the role mindset plays in seeing opportunities. Paris is the place that has helped me see with a fresh perspective; it continues to expand my creative expression. Open eyes, open mind, open heart. Put that all together and what do you get? Loving life!

Paris is an inseparable part of my life. I also love to cook. Merge the two et voilà!—cooking videos! In making them, I’ve grown to respect both Julia Child and film editors: Julia for being the pioneer she was, and editors as the ones who really give shape to what we see. Now that I’ve got the hang of it, I’ll be making more. But for starters, here are a couple of fun ones. If you enjoy them, please subscribe, that’s the name of the game!

Paris Off Script + Rouge Bordeaux = kismet! Meet Julien and Megan Martel, the delightful proprietors of Rouge Bordeaux B&B. In this brief, informal video we talk about how we met and came to forge a collaboration between Paris Off Script and Rouge Bordeaux Immersions, marrying the best of both city and country for our clients. We’ll be tempting you with other fun, short videos where we cook, talk about Paris and Bordeaux, and give you a flavor of what it means to come with us “for the passion, not the luxury.” Head to the Paris Off Script YouTube channel and subscribe so you won’t miss an episode!

It’s always fun to collaborate with Traci Parent Nelson of French Detours. In the spring of 2020, while the world was on lockdown because of Covid-19, we decided to “go” to Paris. We channelled our emotions for missing the city and France into this conversation.

In the fall of 2019, I participated in “An Online Conversation for Travelers and Global Thinkers” with Inspire Travel Summit. Because I was in Paris and my work schedule and the six-hour time difference presented a conflict, Jannan Poppen of ITS interviewed me separately. Here, from Paris, is that interview.

With Paris Off Script, there’s always a fortuitous stroke of serendipity. And so it was when my path crossed with freelance journalist, Crystal Hammon. We met on Zoom, in circumstances that had nothing to do with travel or Paris, and several weeks later she contacted me, intrigued. Not long after that, across 4,000 miles and six time zones, we had a fun conversational interview. It made its way into the AAA Crossroads magazine (print and online) as “An American’s Guide to Parisian Life.” Click on the title to read (if prompted, use code 47401), and enjoy!

When friend and fellow Francophile, Traci Parent Nelson of French Detours, asked me to be a Guest Contributor and write about my favorite subject, I could not say « non ». Click on the title to read the short piece.

On April 15, 2019, the world watched in horror as a blaze ripped through the roof of Notre-Dame de Paris, toppling the spire and damaging the beloved cathedral. I watched, too, from the banks of the Seine. That night, the travel editor of the Minneapolis StarTribune called me in Paris to ask if I would write a reaction for inclusion in the article she was writing.
